MY FIRST YEAR(FACTION)
HOW I TELL MY STORY. 3
You see, before I go further, I would like to give you some candid advice. Never judge a book by its cover. 'Don't ever view UNN from Lagos'
That first day I entered UNN, I won't lie, I loved what I saw. From the second gate, zooming through Eni-njoku hostel and then, Franco pitch to ICT, I was marveled by what I saw. I couldn't wait to become a student. In fact, the view was what propelled me more to make sure I was admitted into the school by merit.
On the second day, it was exam day. By now, I knew only the ICT center. So all the people I had met online before that exam day, I always used the ICT center as the meeting point. I assumed everyone should know the Place, like, why won't someone know a whole ICT center? I thought the school revolved around ICT.
But what was funny that second day was that I was supposed to go inside the school now. I was supposed to go to another place other than ICT. But because I knew nowhere else that day, I had to step out on time so as to locate the venue before the time. I had already planned myself sha. I prepared that I would alight from the shuttle at the ICT center (my center) and then, ask questions and trek to my venue which was at NNAMDI AZIKIWE LIBRARY. Naive me, I never knew how foolish the thought was.
At the ICT, I stepped down from the shuttle bus and then, inquired from one guy I assumed was a student. And, this guy directed me towards the engineering department, that I should just go straight, that I was close. "Go straight, you are close" took me more than ten minutes. At the end of the road too, everywhere became blank. I saw an old library but it didn't look like where the exam would be held. I had to ask again and I was directed first to chitis. At the junction, one leading to zoo, another, to pharmacy, I had to ask another girl I saw who pitied me and directed me back to the old library. She said that when I get there, that I should go through the container, to First Bank and then the ICT center. I was sweating already, moving mugushly.
Luckily for me, I met one of the aspirants I met online before the exam who had been in school and had known some places. She was the one that led me to the library environment. However, one thing shocked me. I saw shuttles still dropping people at that same venue I was looking for. I even saw the man that dropped me drop another person who I was in the same bus with before I alighted.
Opposite the library stood the VC's magnificent office. At the VC's was also a fountain (that was definitely the first time I saw that, movies apart). This intrigued me and I vowed that I must be admitted into the school. But now, I guess, that too was among the fallacies they used to lure me in. But regrettably, I am still enjoying the suffering.
While I was waiting for my batch to enter for the exam, One of the experiences I will never forget happened. What was that?
